Maryland Yacht Club Holds Open House
The public was invited to learn about the club and its services and facilities.
Boasting the tag line of “No boat, No problem,” the Maryland Yacht Club claims to be “the best kept secret in Pasadena.” With amenities including a swimming pool, clubhouse, and private beach and a social calendar packed with events, the club may live up to its claims. At the club's Open House, held annually in March, members of the community were welcomed to visit and explore all of the advantages of being a MYC member.
“The club isn't just about owning a boat,” said Membership Chairperson Carl Treff. “Both boating and social members can come to the club and watch the sunset, use the pool, have a drink and relax.”
Active in the community for 103 years, the Maryland Yacht Club has called Pasadena its home since the 1950's. The club rests at the end of Fairview Beach Road, and offers beautiful views of the Rock Creek and the Patapsco River from its shores. MYC can hold 130 boats, with 100 of those spots currently filled by boat-owning members. The club's 70 social members prove that the “No boat, No problem” tag line is not just lip service.
“Our social members can do everything that boating members do, they just don't own a boat,” said Treff.
In addition to a fully stocked bar, a clubhouse with beautiful views of the water, an in-ground swimming pool with lifeguard, playgrounds for the kids, and a covered pavilion on the beach for parties and events, MYC holds an active social calendar. The club offers dinner for members several nights during the week, as well as lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
“We are trying to reach out more to families in the area,” said Treff. “We have several events during the year for the kids because we want to attract more families in the community.”
Family events at MYC include a Mother's Day brunch, an Easter brunch and egg hunt, and a Halloween party.
The Maryland Yacht Club also provides catering and event hosting services for the public. Banquets, weddings and luncheons are frequently scheduled on the club's beautiful grounds. Additionally, MYC holds an Opening Weekend event in June to kick off their boating season. The Queen of the Chesapeake Pageant is also held on this weekend.
